How to Play Carcassonne

Introduction

If you are a fan of strategy board games, then Carcassonne is definitely worth checking out. It is a tile-laying game in which players take turns placing tiles to create a medieval landscape. The game is easy to learn, but challenging to master, and offers a lot of replay value. In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to play Carcassonne, perfect for beginners and kids.

How to Play Carcassonne Step-by-Step

  1. Setup:

    • Each player chooses a color and takes the corresponding set of meeples.
    • Shuffle the Carcassonne tiles and place them face down in the center of the table.
    • Randomly select a starting tile and place it in the center of the table, face up. This tile is called the “starting tile”.
  2. Gameplay:

    • On your turn, draw a tile from the bag and place it adjacent to one of the tiles already on the table. The tile must be placed so that it creates a continuous landscape, with roads connecting to roads, cities connecting to cities, and fields connecting to fields.
    • After you have placed your tile, you can score points by placing your meeples on the tile. You can place meeples on roads, cities, fields, or cloisters. The number of points you score depends on the type of feature you place your meeple on, and on whether you were the first player to place a meeple on that feature.
    • The game ends when all of the tiles have been drawn from the bag. The player with the most points wins the game.
