How To Play Mysterium
Introduction
Mysterium is a cooperative board game that is played with two to seven players. It is a game of deduction and intuition that is enjoyed by people of all ages. The game is played in two phases: the Ghost’s phase and the Psychics’ phase. In the Ghost’s phase, the Ghost provides visual clues to the Psychics to help them identify the correct Vision card. In the Psychics’ phase, the Psychics discuss their interpretations of the Ghost’s clues and vote on the Vision card that best matches the Ghost’s clues.
How to Play Mysterium Step-by-Step
1. Set Up the Game:
- Place the Ghost’s screen in the center of the table.
- Each player receives a set of six transparent Dream cards and a Psychic card, keeping them hidden from other players.
- Shuffle the Vision cards and deal seven to each player, arranging them face-up in a row in front of them.
2. Select the Ghost:
- Randomly select one player to be the Ghost. This player will be responsible for communicating with the Psychics through images.
3. Ghost’s Objective:
- The Ghost’s objective is to help the Psychics identify the correct Vision card by providing visual clues. The clues can be abstract or symbolic and can include colors, shapes, or objects.
4. Psychics’ Objective:
- The Psychics’ objective is to identify the correct Vision card based on the clues provided by the Ghost. They do this by selecting one of their six Dream cards and placing it face up next to the Vision card they believe matches the clue.
5. Ghost’s Turn:
- On their turn, the Ghost reveals one of their Dream cards to all players, providing a visual clue related to the Vision card they wish to communicate.
- The Ghost can also use gestures, humming, or other nonverbal cues to provide additional hints.
6. Psychics’ Turn:
- After the Ghost reveals their Dream card, the Psychics take turns selecting one of their Dream cards and placing it face up next to the Vision card they believe matches the clue.
- Each Psychic must carefully consider the Ghost’s clue and discuss their interpretation with the other players before making their selection.
7. Voting:
- Once all Psychics have made their selection, they simultaneously reveal their chosen Dream cards.
- The Psychics collectively vote on the Vision card that best matches the Ghost’s clue, using a majority vote.
8. Scoring:
- If the majority of Psychics correctly identify the Vision card, the Psychics earn two points each, and the Ghost earns one point.
- If a Psychic correctly identifies the Vision card they selected, they earn an additional two bonus points.
9. Game End:
- The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds (usually seven).
- The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
